How To Ballet Shoe Fondant

Made in Deutschland 2007 (4): Wir Sind Helden

Wir Sind Helden are without doubt the group of "indie rock" Germany's most popular with 1.2 million copies sold in just two albums. They are also responsible for them in spite of a new "Neue Deutsche Welle" which saw bands like Juli Silbermond, or try their luck (with large marketing budgets reinforcements majors who know a good thing) using the same formula " rock band with singer ", with much less talent. Many were waiting at the turn after "Die Reklamation", their debut album full of pop beads but they did not disappoint in delivering "Von Yesterday An Blind" album a bit more calm but very successful. They were there not too far off the beaten path but succeeded the feat to make at least as well as their first attempt, proving the passage they were not mere "One Hit Wonders." They said they also ironically the first single from the album, "gekommen um zu bleiben" (come to stay). Their humor and determination not to "take the lead" is actually one of the aspects that made this band so endearing.

We are in 2007, the ersatz have more or less disappeared along with the euphoria of this new stage and Wir Sind Helden released his highly anticipated third album. Unfortunately for them and for us this time is a slight disappointment. I still can not get used to their new single "Endlich Ein Grund Zur Panik" despite a clip amusing pastiche of Japanese science fiction films. They give a little impression of seeking a new way with titles like this one or "An die Arbeit", leaving little to pass what they do best. If it was their first attempt they would most likely bred hero (sic) and saviors of the German pop quality that is only their third album, and we were accustomed to better. Difficult to assess independently of the disk heredity. It is (very) good quality with little pop tunes in the purest vein Wir Sind Helden as "Der Krieg kommt schneller zurück als of denkst" or "The Geek" and they vary their formula with success by borrowing shamelessly Interpol guitars on "Labyrinth" or riffs mixed with the Babyshambles brass on "Die Konkurrenz". Only for the first time there are also titles soulless, automatic pilot, such as "Hände Hoch" and "Soundso" which also seem to be the same song and do that bitterly recall their past successes. An album in half shade so that probably suffers unfairly mais ses illustrious Aïeux qui pris pour ce qu'il est reste un album de qualité. Peut-être est-ce une sort de transition. Esperon que ce soit pour le meilleur.

What Are Ontario Red License Plates

Made in Deutschland 2007 (3): Jens Friebe

After several years in groups remained relatively unknown, Jens Friebe released his first solo album " Vorher Nachher Bilder" (Pictures before after ) in 2003. A prolific artist, four years later he is on his third album "Das mit dem Auto ist egal, ist nichts passiert dir Hauptsache " (It's okay for the car until it thee nothing happened) he released a few months after a book collection of tickets company published online on her blog, all by writing regular columns for the magazine Berliner Intro. Like him, his music is not confined to one style but spins constantly between songs pop / rock rather conventional but extremely catchy ("Neues Gesicht", "From Freust dich ja gar nicht") and securities which he drowns his texts in the synthesizer sounds like a Casiotone For The Painfully Alone to a doctor who would be well advised finally prescribed some anti-depressants ("con game"). Sometimes romantic ("Nothing Matters When We're Dancing"), sometimes self-parody ("Hass, Hass, Hass"), sometimes falsely jaded ("Erschreckend Aktuell"), like Ray Davis of Jens Friebe invented in his songs that little people used to offer a perspective on the small world around him. Playing a lot with words and writing with a sensitive non germanophones necessarily pass next to a large part of his work but this album is very pleasant although sometimes his songs and some powerful hits like this "Frau Baron" proposed below listening.

2010 Jelly Braclet Meanings

Made in Deutschland 2007 (2): Die Türen

Die Türen is the alter ego of German groups twee / indie-pop English. So nothing to do with their American namesakes (The Doors) except intensive use piano, and sometimes even Wurlitzer ("Ehrlich Arbeit") as the backbone of their songs. Songs whose rhythms recall now Little Richard, sometimes swing, sometimes the credits of the Pink Panther, now a disco hit, sometimes all at once ... but yet they manage to always be rooted in their time. Like many bands of the English stage, and I think Los Campesinos especially at this time, their music has a predominant aspect of fun and their lyrics are full of references to other cultural groups, magazines, the independent scene Berlin, etc.. It is far from the concerns emotional, spiritual or historical lot of German bands. With their third album "Popo", die Türen prove however they are not a funny story in the German musical landscape, it is possible to make quality music in German without special is taken very seriously . Casually, in passing they manage to compose the ultimate anthem in Berlin ("Indie Stadt") and an impressive series of tubes that will delight fans of Indie-Karaoke and the dance floor of alternative clubs. Always with a degree of self-mockery, "Er ist uncool! Aber ist das neue uncool cool!" (It is not cool But do not be cool is the new cool! ").

Does Hernia Hurt Babies

Made in Deutschland 2007 (1): Tocotronic

With "Kapitulation", their eighth studio album since their debut in 1993 , Tocotronic (not to be confused with Technotronic) book without any doubt my favorite album germanophone of 2007. It just missed my top 11. I would have listened a few more times that there would probably figuratively. I'm far from knowing all the band's career but this album has a taste of achievement. Texts worked, easily understandable for anyone with a little knowledge of German but also a pleasant music and phrasing that make the dispensable signifaction words, although one of the highlights of the album. "Kapitulation," the first single from the album, list all those little moments in life where we want to send everything to waltz, to surrender, in a tone of gentle empathy reassuring. "Gegen Dich dich Verschwörer" or "Imitationen sounds like the best moments of British Sea Power (although this should be the other age groups saw), melodies and electric guitar work impeccable. Tocotronic also exhibited on songs like "Mein Ruin" or the gorgeous epilogue "Explosion" a much darker side, over which hung the inevitable shadow of Blixa Bargeld and Einstürzende Neubauten. Influences perfectly performed and fifteen years of experience summarized into twelve tracks. A must.

How To Get Scorch Marks Of An Iron

Made in Deutschland 2007: Introduction Ola

German contemporary music always struggled to be exported. The German language is a hard, guttural, unappreciated in song in the country where it is not practiced. In doing so, rare are the groups that manage to pierce germanophones internationally. Europe's collective memory will probably remember the friendly and Nena's "99 Luftballons", whose success was not really sealed until an English version, torture was the musical "Ein Zwei Polizei" Modo early 90, or more recently "Durch den Monsun" from Tokio Hotel and their ineffable singer from a cross between Tina Turner (v. 80) and Victoria Beckham. Not enough to impress the whole world in fact. German music nevertheless boasts gems that regularly try to find Germanophile as convinced. These last few years the country of Goethe gave us some great bands who achieved a certain notoriety in their country but unable to cross the Rhine, much less an ocean. I therefore propose in the next seven days, the rhythm of a short post a day and discover some of the best pieces of rock "indie" German in 2007. These seven tickets will not pretend to show you the "underground" German groups are presented fairly well established in Germany, but rather to take a curious look on a few groups worthy of our interest.

Cartoon Birthday Maxine

Podrida

As a first post of 2008 I decided to revisit an album that managed to climb into my top 11 of the year 2007 and I've never spoken. Ola Podrida is a musical project led by David Wingo, hitherto best known for his work as creator of soundtracks for American independent films. He has composed music include Snow Angels, Guatemalan Handshake or All the Real Girls, all directed by David Gordon Green. Yeah, me either. Anyway this American released confidentially my favorite album of delicate folk of last year. Released in May, it was only an hour late November or specialized sites already beginning to compile their year-end lists that I discovered his music. Love at first sight and welcome after the slight disappointment for me was the last Iron & Wine (with whom comparisons are inevitable).

David Wingo and his gang face is with this first album for the first time in the foreground. More questions to accompany the images of another, music is now the sole focus. Cinema however, is never very far because they have borrowed some techniques of narration. All the songs are true stories in which Wingo likes the scene ("The Car crashed, everybody was OK"), describe the atmosphere ("Sleeping Dogs Out in the yard, cats upon the Roof") create action scenes (the character of "Cindy" who s'engoufre in a burning building for example) and provide melodic twists. He accompanies his singing whispered orchestrations discrete acoustic guitar. Ola Podrida is a group but most titles are yet in a very stripped register where the only other instrument is a tambourine or maracasses giving rhythm. By reaching the ear is found, however, other instruments subtly brought. A second guitar intertwined, a third, a few notes of piano or organ, a flute, which all come to overshadow the benefit of all. Some tracks like "Lost and Found" or "Jordanna" yet not hesitate to break the stillness that had settled. The machine packs and David Wingo slightly hoarse offering the listener a welcome diversity, making the peace to follow all the more enjoyable. With such qualities, they are welcome to make the soundtrack of my life when they want.
